Potential definition

Potential means having or showing the capacity to develop and become something/someone useful in the future.

It includes latent abilities and qualities that may be developed to become successful in the future.

Why is potential important

Potential is important because it can show us glimpses of who and what we might become in the future if we apply ourselves correctly. But it can also show us what we can become if we don’t live up to it.

Being able to see potential in ourselves and others gives us hope for a better life. Whether it’s becoming a better person, more socially proficient, or becoming successful and proficient at certain given skills.

We are literally programmed to unconsciously look for potential. Because it provides value to our own and other people’s lives. And there’s nothing worse than untapped or wasted potential.

We often unconsciously select our friends, jobs, and even our partners based on their perceived potential.

How can we reach our full potential

Interestingly enough, we are often times better at recognizing latent potential in others than in ourselves.

But in order to reach our own full potential, it’s important that we:

Apply ourselves

We need to apply and dedicate ourselves to whatever goal(s) we want to pursue in life. We need to try to become as competent as possible.

Just being smart will often not cut it, unless you’re freakishly smart, and even then it’s not a given that you will be successful.

Work hard and smart

We need to work hard and smart if we want to reach our full potential.

Just working hard without a plan will not be the path towards guaranteed success. Working smart will make the hard work easier and increase the odds of succeeding.

Have goals

Having clearly defined goals is important, no matter what we choose to pursue in life.

We need to know what we’re aiming at in order to create a well-thought-out plan in order to reach said goal(s). A plan also allows us to track our progress.

Plan

In order to reach our dreams and goals, we need to create a plan that will act as our guidance. It will help to keep us focused and will keep us on the right track.

Big dreams have very rarely been accomplished by just winging it YOLO style. But a purposeful created plan with both clearly defined long and short term goals will make it easier to check and track our progress.

Focus on the big picture

Focusing on the big picture instead of nitpicking about little details that don’t matter much in the long run is advised. Try keeping your thoughts positive, even when negative experiences and hardships come your way.

This can be a very hard thing to do, but improving your mental health is possible and well within your reach.

Time management

Managing your time is absolutely vital if you want to become successful, no matter what goal you choose to pursue. Remember that time is money.

Creating a schedule can be extremely helpful to keep you on the right track, and will be another tool in your accessory that helps to keep yourself accountable.

Keep it simple

Like most things in life, the simple things are often the best. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

It is often best to utilize strategies that have historically worked out well. Although a certain amount of personal creativity and expression can certainly help you to realizeYOUR full potential.

Stay focused

Staying focused can be hard, especially in the long term when our motivation starts to dwindle. That’s where our carefully devised plan comes into play. As it will allow us to keep on the right path, even when not feeling like it.

Good habits are especially helpful for times like these.

Recharging your batteries often by relaxing and taking your mind off work and other stressors will also help you to feel revitalized.

Recharge

Like shortly touched upon in our previous point, recharging often to keep yourself in tip-top shape, both mentally and physically, is key.

Try maintaining a healthy lifestyle by exercising often and eating a clean diet. Wind down by doing things you enjoy and that help to take your mind off work.
